As feted musician Ilaiyaraaja completes 50 years in the film industry, a special felicitation ceremony was planned on behalf of the
Tamil Nadu government. Notably, the composer also successfully conducted a symphony concert in London recently. The event was originally scheduled to be held on June 2 2025, coinciding with his birthday, to celebrate the completion of 50 years of the composer in the film industry. But owing to some concerns, it was postponed. In a newest development, the 50-year celebration for Ilaiyaraaja will now be held on September 13th at 5.30 pm at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.

Kamal Haasan, are expected to deliver their congratulations at the event. Various celebrities from the film and music industries are also expected to attend. Furthermore, a grand concert will be held under the leadership of Ilaiyaraaja, with foreign musicians also participating in the event. All arrangements have been made to make this not an ordinary appreciation ceremony, but a proud cultural event.

Speaking to reporters at the Chennai airport on Sep 10, Ilaiyaraaja, with joy and emotion, said, “This is the first time that the Tamil Nadu government is holding an official felicitation ceremony for an artist.
I am as happy as all of you are. "People's expectations for this festival are very high. Even that stadium is not enough," he said. In his speech, he said that governments should pay great attention to the participation of artists, and requested the government to hold such appreciation programs more often.
