Mohan was one of the leading actors in South Indian cinema during the 1980s and the simple star made many to admire him. More than winning the hearts of youngsters, it is important for an actor to win love from the family audience, but Mohan did it easily and won a separate fan base. He has stunned the other actors by the most number of releases in a year, and his every turn on to be a blockbuster at the box office. Mohan's films easily were Silver Jubile i.e ran for 25 weeks in theaters. 'Moodu Pani' - 1980

Mohan started the 1980 decade with the blockbuster film 'Moodu Pani', which was directed by Balu Mahendra. It also marked the actor's debut in Tamil cinema and his debut was a great landmark as it ran over 200 days in theatres. 'Moodu Pani' also marked the 100th film of Ilayaraja, and it received a great response from the audience.

'Payanangal Mudivathillai' - 1982

'Payanangal Mudivathillai', which was directed by R Sundarraja, features Mohan and Poornima Jayaram in the lead roles. Nowadays, a theatrical run of 50 days itself a tough one for the films, but Mohan's 'Payanangal Mudivathillai' ran for more than a year in theaters. The monstrous success of the film earned him the Filmfare award for Best Actor.

'Gopurangal Saivathillai' - 1982

The romantic drama mixed with emotions 'Gopurangal Saivathillai' features Mohan, Suhasini, and Radha in the lead roles. 'Gopurangal Saivathillai' was the debut of popular director and actor Manivannan, and the film was well appreciated. The film had a theatrical run of more than 150 days, and it was also remade in Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and Hindi languages.

The romantic drama turned out as a blockbuster one, and it had a theatrical run of over 175 days. Mohan and Revathi played the lead roles, while Karthik played a key role, and the music of the film was scored by Ilayaraja.
