Actor and comedian Goundamani who is renowned for his acts with Senthil in the Tamil cinema celebrates his 74th birthday today. The legendary actor and undisputed King of comedy who was last seen in Jaggubhai, with Sarath Kumar in 2010 will soon be seen in Vaaimai, a film directed by Senthil Kumar, who happens to be a former associate of director Vasanthabalan.The comedian's actual name is Mani but he famously portrayed the role of a Oor-Gounder in one of his Stage plays and from then on he came to be known as Goundamani. The all time favorite and evergreen comedy superstar Goundamani started acting in films with '16 Vayathinile' in 1977 as
Rajinikanth's accomplice.
Some of his memorable movies are with lead actors such as Sathyaraj, Karthik, Rajinikanth, Arjun, Parthiban, Jayaram,
Kamal Hassan, Vijay,
Ajith Kumar, Sarath Kumar and Prabhu. In several Tamil films, he has even accompanied the lead actor in almost all of the scenes and in a few songs.
Goundamani was initially a solo actor and then paired up with Senthil to form a comedy duo who are widely considered as Kollywood's Laurel and Hardy. The successful duo of Senthil and Goundamani have now performed slapstick humour and acted more than 450 films.
