‘Draupathi 2’: Mohan G Kshatriyan directorial film set for grand Pongal release - Find out release date

Director Mohan G Kshatriyan’s upcoming film, which is set to be a historical drama, ‘Draupathi 2,’ has now officially locked the release date of the film. The makers took to their social media handle to announce the film would hit the big screens with a festive Pongal release this year.

On Monday, it was announced that the film will be released on January 15, 2026.

Opportunity seized after ‘Jana Nayagan’ postponement

As per a report by IANS, the makers of ‘Draupathi 2’ were among the first to take advantage of the situation after the postponement of Vijay-starrer ‘Jana Nayagan.’ Soon after the delay was confirmed, strong buzz began doing the rounds that ‘Draupathi 2’ would arrive for Pongal. In fact, a source close to the unit mentioned to the agency that the film was certainly targeting a festival release. “It will be out on one of the festival days. The team is working out the details, but the film is definitely coming for Pongal,” they said. The latest announcement has now confirmed those plans.

About the film ‘Draupathi 2’

Speaking about the film, it is said to be set in the 14th century, especially during the reign of the Hoysala emperor Veera Vallalar III. It also focuses on the bravery and resistance of the Kadavarayas of Sendhamangalam. Adding more intensity to the plot are the major political and social changes triggered by the Mughal invasion of Tamil Nadu.

Cast of the film

The film stars Richard Rishi and Rakshana Induchoodan in the lead roles. Actor and cinematographer Natti Natraj will be seen playing a key role. The supporting cast includes Y. G. Mahendran, Nadodigal Barani, Saravana Subbiah, Vela Ramamoorthy, Siraj Johnny, Dinesh Lamba, Ganesh Gaurang, Divi, Devayani Sharma, and Arunodayan.

Ghibran Vaibodha has composed the music of the film, which is said to be mounted on a grand scale and expected to have a powerful historical narrative.
