Dhanush bags Tamil Nadu State Best Actor Award for ‘Vada Chennai’; says it is a ‘true honour’

Actor Dhanush has won the Tamil Nadu Government’s State Film Award for Best Actor for the year 2018. He received the award for his role in director Vetri Maran’s film ‘Vada Chennai’. After the announcement, the Tamil star shared a message calling it a “true honour”.

Dhanush took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, "I sincerely thank the Government of Tamil Nadu for conferring upon me the State Award for Vada Chennai. It is a true honor. My heartfelt congratulations to all the other awardees as well."

‘Vada Chennai’ sweeps major awards

‘Vada Chennai’ won awards in seven categories. Samuthirakani won Best Villain for the film. Director and actor Ameer won Best Supporting Actor. Santhosh Narayanan won Best Music Director. Velraj won Best Cinematographer. Aishwarya Rajesh, who played the female lead, won Best Actress (Special Prize). She won this award for her performances in ‘Vada Chennai’ and ‘Kanaa’. The film once again proved its strong impact.

Actor Vishnu Vishal won the Best Actor (Special Prize) for his film ‘Ratsasan’. He also shared his happiness on social media.

Best Films and Award ceremony details

The Best Picture first place went to ‘Pariyaerum Perumal’ directed by Mari Selvaraj. Second place went to ‘Kadaikutty Singam’ by Pandiraj. Third place went to ‘96’ directed by Premkumar.

The Tamil Nadu government announced awards for seven years, from 2016 to 2022. Winners will receive a gold medal, a memento, and a certificate. The award function will be held at Kalaivanar Arangam on February 13.
