Actors who are gearing up for a sequel in Kollywood

Karthi isn't the only actor who has sequels among his upcoming films. We give you 10 actors, from Kamal Haasan and Suriya to Silambarasan TR and Dhanush, who are likely to have a sequel in the next few years...

The actor is definitely on a career high this year with a hattrick of hits in the form of Viruman, Ponniyin Selvan 1 and Sardar. And his upcoming slate now includes a trio of films that are proven hit material. Are we going to witness the rise and rise of Karthi in the next two years?

The Ulaganayagan rediscovered his box office form with Vikram, which turned out to be one of the highest grossing Tamil films of all time. Now, he is busy with Shankar's Indian 2, which is among the most awaited projects of 2023. Then, there is Vikram 2 with Lokesh Kanagaraj on the cards. Meanwhile, there are also reports of Kamal planning a sequel to Thevar Magan, which turned 30 today, with acclaimed Mollywood director and editor Mahesh Narayanan helming the project.

Rolex. Need we say more? His hardcore villain act in Vikram came as a surprise for everyone, given his nice-guy persona, and Suriya is only going to scare us more with his evil deeds in the sequel, given that his character is now baying for the blood of those who have messed up with his drug-smuggling operation in the first film.

Vikram managed to walk home with honours in the few scenes that he was seen in PS1. With the actor's role a key one in the plot developments of PS2, expect him to make an even bigger impact in the sequel as the crown prince Aditha Karikalan, whose life is under threat.

Though this was planned as a standalone film, Vetri Maaran's social drama, based on Jeyamohan's short story Thunaivan, has now been expanded into two films. While Soori plays the 'kathaiyin nayagan', Vijay Sethupathi will be seen as a heroic revolutionary wanted by the police. The first film is expected to hit screens in December 2022, so expect the sequel in 2023 — hopefully.

Even though he made an appearance only in the second half of the film, the actor surprised everyone with a measured performance in PS1. With his character and his actions the fulcrum of the rest of the film, PS2 is sure to win Jayam Ravi new fans.

While there are some who have expressed that the epilogue that provides a lead to the sequel of VTK is an unnecessary one, given that the film felt complete with the scene in which Silambarasan's Muthu chooses to walk away from a life of violence, director Gautham Vasudev Menon seems keen on carrying the story forward. He even released another clip showing more snippets from the intended sequel. STR fans, too, can't wait to see him as a badass gangster a la Rock Bhai.

Dhanush and Vetri Maaran are one of the power combos in Tamil cinema, and they delivered a crackling gangster drama with Vada Chennai. The epic film instantly became a cult classic and fans have been eager to find out when they can witness 'Anbuvin Ezhuchi'. However, with both the actor and the filmmaker tied up with other projects at the moment, it looks like this sequel might take a while to see the light of the day.

The crime thriller Ratsasan was Vishnu Vishal's big break into the big league and not surprisingly, the actor has announced that a sequel is in the works. However, before taking up this film, Vishnu has revealed that he will be teaming up with Ratsasan's director Ramkumar for another film in a new genre.

Vishal had begun this sequel to Thupparivalan with the original's director Mysskin in 2019. However, the two had a fallout and Vishal took over this film as a director. While the project is in cold storage right now, Vishal has often remarked that he will take it up once he completes his present acting projects.
