Prasanna is certain that his next film with Cheran will take Kollywood by storm! What happens when two gifted actors and one talented director come across a script that they believe will not just take them but also Tamil cinema places? They leave no stone unturned to get it made into a film and title it Muran.
Says Prasanna, sporting a smile that reeks of both satisfaction and confidence, “Muran, as the name suggests, is a story about contradictions in life — a contradiction between reality and dreams; between what you want and what you get.
The film revolves primarily around two characters and director Rajan Madhav was very clear right from the start about who he wanted to play those characters.
Continues the actor, “Rajan wanted me to play one of the characters and Cheran sir to play the other. Both of us were excited when we heard the script because this is a story that has not been dealt with in Tamil cinema before. We did not have a producer then but still, all three of us were determined to make this story into a film. We approached several producers, 25 to be precise. Most of them were willing to make it into a film, but with conditions attached. We did not want to compromise on anything and finally, Cheran sir and I decided to produce the film ourselves. But before I could muster the funds, Cheran sir himself single-handedly organised the funds and we began shooting for Muran. Now, a big production house, impressed with the way the film has shaped up, has taken over from him.”
The actor is all praise for his co-star Cheran, who, he says, will impress audiences yet again. Says Prasanna, “Cheran sir plays a struggling musician in this film, a role that he has not been seen in before. Nobody else could have handled this role better than him! I play a rich guy, a brat, in the film. What happens when we both meet and how our lives change after a chance encounter is what this movie is all about. This movie will be so exciting that audiences can expect to be stunned once every five minutes. The screenplay and script have that many interesting twists.”
Haripriya and Nikitha, both of whom are from the Kannada film industry, play the lead heroines in the film, which also features actor Jayaprakash.
Says Prasanna, “Jayaprakash, who plays my dad in this film, is such an unassuming but powerful actor. He can change his attitude and body language to suit the needs of the character he plays in a film. I feel honoured to have worked with him in this film.”
So, when do audiences get to watch the film? Ninety percent of the film, Prasanna discloses, is over. “Only 20 days of shooting are left. Once that is done, we are ready for release,” he grins and signs off.
