Haripriya is glad that more Kannadiga actresses are bagging roles in Sandalwood films.
Local heroines are getting noticed: Haripriya
Getting a role in a Yograj Bhat film has put Haripriya on cloud nine. More importantly, it’s also restored her faith in the Sandalwood casting process.
The actress, who earlier told BT that local heroines were being overlooked in favour of actresses from Bollywood, says things seem to be looking up for Kannadiga girls. “I felt that if we have talent, we’d certainly get good offers. Finally, local heroines are getting noticed here,” she beams.
How did she bag the role? “I auditioned for the film, just like any other heroine who dreams of being a part of a Yograj Bhat project,” says Haripriya, who likens the experience to writing an exam. “I now feel like a rank student. I’m just waiting to get my report card,” she says, referring to the agreement she needs to sign so that everything is official.
Haripriya is also looking forward to her next release, Sumana Kittur’s Kallara Santhe. But why is the hero of the film being given more prominence on the hoardings? “After all, it’s a male-dominated industry. So, the heroes get more visibility when it comes to publicising a film. But there’s more publicity to come and I’ll be part of that,” says Haripriya.
There are also rumours that she throws tantrums on the sets of her films, which is why people find it difficult to get along with her. “How can people make these judgements about me? If someone hassles me, then I take a stand. Otherwise, I see no reason to trouble anyone,” she asserts.
