Fresh face Riya in Shutter

Talk about luck. Riya S, a first year degree student from Kochi, still can’t believe her good fortune. Just into college, she has been chosen to play an important role in Joy Mathew’s upcoming movie Shutter. “I have no words to describe my joy. To be able to work with such veteran actors in my first movie, I’m thrilled,” she gushes. Lal, Srinivasan and Sajitha Madathil play lead roles in the movie.
However, Riya wouldn’t be a completely unfamiliar face to Malayali TV viewers as she hosts a music programme in Kiran TV - Breakfast Kiran. But it was Soorya TV’s reality show Big Break which literally gave Riya her break. She got the top marks for the show and cameraman Hari Nair was quite impressed with her. It was on his recommendation that Riya got selected to play the role in Joy Mathew’s movie where Hari Nair wields the camera.
“They wanted someone with expressive eyes. I play Lal sir’s daughter in the movie. She is the one who rescues him from a trap in the climax. She is a bold girl and I like that aspect about the character.” The movie is named Shutter because it’s all about what happens behind a shutter, she says.
The movie, which is Joy Mathew’s directorial debut, is expected to release in December.
