Akshay Raheja on wedding season: We absolutely adore watching people's emotions explode - Exclusive

Musical artist Akshay Raheja recently released ‘The Marigold Project’ - a musical outing celebrating wedding festivities and every color of it. While promoting the same, Akshay sat with ETimes and talked about why the project is so close to his heart, what things he kept in mind while weaving the project, and much more.

Scroll down for excerpts from the interview:

Shadi playlist

We asked Akshay Raheja that when it comes to wedding season what all songs make your perfect shaadi playlist? He replied, “There are so many great shaadi songs out there and every year songs roll out. And all of them are just amazing. We have to pick a few which inspired us that will be ‘London Thumakda’ from ‘Queen’, ‘Gallan Goodiyaan’, ‘Gal Mitthi Mitthi’

What is that one thing about the wedding season that you love?

“I love a number of things about the wedding season that we genuinely enjoy including when there is a sense of anticipation in the air. When people are joyful and filled with the beautiful emotion of two families coming together, and of course when there is music playing throughout the festivities. These are a few of the things that we love about the wedding season—actually, it's difficult to single out just one—but we absolutely adore watching people's emotions explode, as well as the music and how everyone is excited”.

When making music for wedding season what are the key factors u keep in mind

“There is no particular factor or formula to make a wedding song for the season but there are certain elements that we kept in mind like when we think of a wedding, the sounds of dhol as they resemble celebration. While curating the album series, the agenda was not to just focus on the wedding but the emotions, and the songs are such that, every song can be played at all the wedding functions, be it courtship, bidaai, cocktail, or just a dance track. The idea was to celebrate a beautiful emotion where people come closer and I and IP weaved the songs together in a series to create a wedding palate.”

Tell us how close is this project to your heart

“The wedding series is very special and close to my heart because the whole process was very beautiful and interactive. When I and IP Singh started working on the songs, we didn’t think of making it as one consolidated wedding project. Then after putting the songs together, we went up to Sony Music and everything just fell into place. A simple demo turned out to be beautiful where we could relate the emotions of the songs to a wedding scenario. If you listen to the album, there is a wide spectrum of songs – upbeat to emotional, that will take you through a journey. We also have got an amazing singer, Asees Kaur and Rashmeet Kaur, who owned the project and made it their own. Hence, we were able to put across the pure emotions behind every song. If we look at every individual song, Divyenndu and Isha have woven the whole story of the wedding from courtship to bidaai and made the video a beautiful series.”
