Musical rewind: Debut song of popular Punjabi singers

From Diljit Dosanjh to Jassie Gill, Punjabi singers are known to deliver one hit after another. So much so that their ever-growing list of latest releases sometimes make us forget the first song they presented. And if you really are having trouble recollecting, here’s a music rewind on the debut songs sung by the popular Punjabi singers. Read on:

2/11

Guru Randhawa

Some people are known to climb the ladder of success real quick and Guru Randhawa is one of them. Guru Randhawa is not just a Punjabi singer, but he is a one-man army that works on vocal, lyrics and music. He started his journey in 2013 with ‘Chadd Gayi’, a sad romantic track.

Thereafter he kept on giving one hit after another and soon became a brand. His songs have also been featured in Bollywood movies and the revamped versions are getting as much love as the original ones.

3/11

Jasmine Sandlas

The powerhouse performer of Punjabi music industry Jasmine Sandlas is out next pick for the category. The girl who has given songs like ‘Illegal Weapon’, ‘Bamb Jatt’, ‘Laddu’, started singing at the age of six. In fact, she was just 16 when she wrote her first song ‘Adhi Rati’. But that song didn’t mark her debut in the industry, despite being a track on her first album ‘Gulabi’. The first song that Jasmine gave to the industry was ‘Muskan’ in 2008.

The girl never looked back after that. She also made her name in Bollywood, by giving vocals to ‘Yaar Na Mile’ that featured in Salman Khan starrer ‘Kick’.

4/11

Mankirt Aulakh

The ‘Daru Band’ fame Mankirt Aulakh, who is now known for his style, swag, and singing, wasn’t accepted by the audience in his initial days. Though from the very beginning he was into peppy dance tracks, his debut song didn’t fetch him fame. He released his first song 'Darshan Karke' in 2013.

However, it was only his initial few songs that give him a bit of tough time, as after that the songster ruled the charts with ‘Dang’, ‘Kadar’, ‘Khayal’ and many others.

5/11

Deep Money

Some singers rose to fame right from their debut and Deep Money is one of them. His first song ‘Dope Shope’ came out in 2011. The song featured in one of the Honey Singh’s bestsellers ‘International Villagers’ and became a chartbuster in no time.

Deep Money recently gave vocals to ‘Heeriye’ and made his Bollywood debut. The song was from the soundtrack of ‘Race 3’.

6/11

Ranjit Bawa

Another Punjabi singer who ruled the charts with his debut song is Ranjit Bawa. The songster made his debut in 2013 with ‘Jatt Di Akal’. The track was highly lauded by the audience and Ranjit also won an award for the same. Later, his album ‘Mitti Di Bawa’ made him earn more recognition.

7/11

Diljit Dosanjh

The hit machine Diljit Dosanjh who rules the chart with every song he comes up with made his singing debut in 2000. His first track was titled ‘Ishq Da Uda Ada’ and it was a peppy-romantic Punjabi song. Considering the musical scenario of that time, the song had the right amount of pep in it to make the audience groove.

Coming back to the present, recently Dijit did Bollywood playback for his movie ‘Soorma’. Titled, ‘Ishq Di Baajiyaan’ the song was penned by the legendary Gulzar and composed by Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy.

8/11

Amrinder Gill

Amrinder Gill is known for giving some of the best romantic tracks to the Punjabi music charts. Thus, this comes as no surprise that he made his debut in the music industry with a love ballad. Titled, ‘Apni Jaan Ke’, the song was released in 2000. The beautiful lyrics were blended well with urban music that created a treat for the ears.

Recently, Amrinder Gill did playback for various Punjabi movies including ‘Daana Paani’ and ‘Golak Bugni Bank Te Batua’.

9/11

Satinder Sartaaj

Satinder Sartaaj is not just an artist but a living legend in the field of Punjabi music. He has presented a number of soulful songs that tugged at the heartstrings of the audience. He started his career as a singer in 2009. In an era when every other songster thought of making an opening with a party anthem or love song, Satinder debuted with a spiritual song titled, ‘Ibadat’.

Currently, he is releasing one after the other song for his album ‘Seasons of Sartaaj’. So far five of them have been out - ‘Main Te Meri Jaan’, ‘Tere Vaastey’, ‘Aarsi’, ‘Nilami’ and ‘Udaarian’.

10/11

Jassie Gill

The ‘Baapu Zamidar’ fame has always been seen sporting a very cool dude sort of image on the musical front. Most of his songs are peppy and filled with a lot of energy. Even his debut song ‘College’ from the album ‘Batchmate’ was all packed with upbeat music. Released in 2011, the song had a tale of revenge where a guy makes a comeback after being rejected by the love of his life.

Jassie’s love for catchy songs is still the same. His latest song ‘Tru Talk’, which features him with a whole guys gang shows that pep packed tracks are his thing.

11/11

Ammy Virk

The Punjabi gabru made his debut in the field of music in 2011. The star, who is presently known more for sad and romantic tracks like ‘Qismat’ and ‘Taara’, began his journey with a peppy song. Titled ‘Chandigarh Diyan Kudiyaan’, the song was a fun track with catchy lyrics and groovy music.

Recently, Ammy turned heads with his latest released song ‘Hath Chumme’. Telling a tale of betrayal, the intense song ruled the charts in no time. Ammy also keeps his fans hooked by doing playbacks in Pollywood movies. He recently crooned for ‘Vadhayiyaan Ji Vadhayiyaan’.
