Sadda Haq (Our right), a Punjabi film based on real life events during the Khalistan movement, was tonight banned by the Punjab Government on the eve of its release across theatres in the state.
According to an official spokesman here, the step to ban the film till further orders has been taken to "maintain communal harmony" in the state.
The film, according to actor-producer Kuljinder Sidhu, is based on the dark days of militancy in Punjab and is an attempt to potray what prompted young men in the state to tread the path of terrorism.

Sidhu also plays a hockey player-turned-militant.
The film has faced criticism that it seeks to glorify the Khalistani movement and militant leaders like Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
Sidhu's brother was killed in an encounter with security forces in Punjab in 1992.
