Om Puri is intending to get serious on promoting theatre in Punjab. The actor met up with Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday to seek his help to promote Punjabi theatre at the recently constructed Harpal Tiwana Centre for Performing Arts (HTCPA), in Patiala. Puri wants to take up this cause as his tribute to the theatre luminary, Harpal Tiwana, who spearheaded theatre movement in the state, and who was also instrumental in inspiring Puri towards acting.
"Harpal Tiwana had sown the seeds of theatre during the days of my youth. It is because of his initiative that Punjabi theatre matured. I owe my success and fame at this point of my career to his guidance. He taught me the basics of theatre," said Puri, adding that he would also endeavour to motivate other theatre people and contemporaries like
Naseeruddin Shah,
Paresh Rawal,
Raj Babbar etc to stage plays at HTCPA.
