Punjabi stars like Gippy Grewal, Binnu Dhillon and more are today famous not just as leading Pollywood protagonists but also as ace producers, directors. However, did you know in the starting days of their career, they didn’t get a positive role right away. In fact, many of the Punjabi heroes started their career by filling in the shoes of anti-heroes.

​Gippy Grewal

Gippy Grewal who is currently known for his comic roles in movies like ‘Carry On Jatta’, ‘Manje Bistre’, ‘Mar Gaye Oye Loko’ and more, made his way in the field of Punjabi cinema as an antagonist. He was seen playing a negative role in the 2010 released movie ‘Mel Karade Rabba’. It was a romantic movie, in which Jimmy Sherigill and Neeru Bajwa were starring as the lead couple. Further, the plot showcased Jimmy head over heels in love with Neeru; however, since Gippy was essaying the role of Jimmy’s enemy, he didn’t let him confess his feelings. Gippy enjoys the first laugh by proposing to Neeru prior to Jimmy, and the last decision thereafter was in the hands of Neeru.

​Binnu Dhillon

Some names need no introduction, and Binnu Dhillon is one of them. The artist is known for owning the screen every time with his comic timing, punches and improves. Even in real life Binnu Dhillon is known for his quirks. But did you know that he made his debut in Pollywood as an antagonist? Binnu made his way to Punjabi cinema in 2007 with the movie ‘Mitti Wajaan Maardi’. In the movie Harbhajan Mann played the main protagonist, while Binnu Dhillon was seen playing a negative shade.

​Gurnam Bhullar

Punjabi singer Gurnam Bhullar turned into an actor with the movie ‘Guddiyan Patole’. He was playing the second lead in the movie opposite Sonam Bajwa. However, before starring in ‘Guddiyan Patole’ the actor played a cameo in the movie ‘High End Yaariyaan’. The movie had Jassie Gill, Ranjit Bawa and Ninja as the protagonist, and in the movie Gurnam Bhullar did a cameo in a negative role.

​Amrit Maan

In 2018 Amrit Maan for the first time was seen in a positive role in the movie ‘Aate Di Chidi’. The movie was a family entertainer with a social message. Thereafter, in 2019 he was seen in ‘Do Dooni Panj’, which was a light-hearted take on the flawed education system. In that too he was seen as a protagonist. But did you know that his debut movie ‘Channa Mereya’ featured him in a negative shade? The actor even won an award for his performance in the gray shade.
