Today's date - 23 March 2018 holds a certain special significance. There's a history associated with this date, a part of history will be recreated today as 23 March 2018 marks the 87th anniversary of Bhagat Singh’s martyrdom and the release of the first Punjabi movie based on
World War I.
“Leave sentimentalism aside. Be prepared to face the facts. Revolution is a very difficult task. It is beyond the power of any man to make a revolution. Neither can it be brought about on any appointed date. It is brought about by special environments, social and economic. The function of an organised party is to utilise such an opportunity offered by these circumstances. [To] prepare the masses and organise the forces for the revolution is a very difficult task. And that requires a very great sacrifice on the part of the revolutionary workers.”
—
Bhagat Singh in a letter “To the young political workers”, 2 February 1931
India was blessed to have a son like Bhagat Singh, a son who sacrificed his life in honor of his motherland. He was just 23-years-old when he was hanged to death on 23 March 1931 in Lahore jail. Till date, nobody has had the courage like Bhagat Singh to face the gallows, to fight so hard till the last breath, to love unconditionally and embrace true patriotism.
Words can never be enough to describe this national hero.
“Itihaas Naal Hai Pehchaan Saadi….Bachean Nu Dasna Zaruri Hai….”
Punjabi cinema is generally known for its comedy productions, but the times have changed. ‘Sajjan Singh Rangroot’ is an example of the same. Sometimes things are just recorded in the pages of history and are never re-opened, the movie is an attempt to bring the history in limelight. Releasing today, this is the first Punjabi movie is made on World War I, to be specific, it’s based on the Sikh regiment that was sent on the front lines during the battle. The valor the soldiers showed, the odds they faced, the determination they had to face the enemies, all this and much more will be featured in the movie. It’s a tribute to all those fighters who fought selflessly for the land.
