Five cutting-edge Marathi movies you should not miss

Off late, the Marathi film industry has made it in the news due to its advancement in filmmaking techniques. Marathi cinema has made a remarkable progress by hard-hitting social commentary brought up by its super-talented filmmakers, writers, and the versatile actors. We have seen some films on the topics which were untouched before, yet presented extremely well. Below are such 5 movies which you must watch.

'Harishchandrachi Factory'

This film completely rediscovered the amazing genre of biopics in the Marathi film industry. This film is pictured on the legend of Indian cinema Dadasaheb Phalke and the very first film made by him. This film, which was Paresh Mokashi's directorial debut, flawlessly recreated the era of 1911 and beautifully portrayed the struggle of the filmmaker. The film has great performances from Nandu Madhav and Vibhawari Deshpande. The film has another plus point of fine storytelling. This film was chosen as India's entry to the Academy Awards.

'Shwaas'

A beautiful story of a grandfather's struggle to show his grandson the amazing things and the beauty of the world before he loses his vision was a unanimously praised film. The story is presented in the simplest way, by debutant Sandeep Sawant. This was a low budget film which was completed in just 30 days. This film was marked as India's official entry to Oscars. It also ranked sixth in the Academy Awards for the best foreign language film category. It also won the National Award for the best film.

'Dombivali Fast'

This film is a story of a common Mumbaikar who storms against all the wrongs happening around him to set them right. During his journey of making things right, he goes through a mental breakdown when the corrupt system in which he is surviving breaks his back and discourages him. The story has a tragic end giving the message to the audience of self-awareness and to keep a check on this system. This movie is shot so realistically that it is counted in one of the classic films in the Marathi film industry.

This masterpiece by Umesh Kulkarni is a sentimental story about how death affects the children's heart and mind. The movie is an odd man out as it has again touched the untouched subject of loss. This made it a critically acclaimed film. It's about two cousins and the occurrence of shocking events in their lives while they are growing up.
