Regional films give actors the liberty to experiment with roles, says Deepak Dobriyal

For Deepak Dobriyal, who is a self-confessed fan of Marathi, Kannada and Malayalam cinema, the regional industry has much more to offer than Bollywood. “Regional films give actors the liberty to experiment and be true to their passion as a kalaakar. In Bollywood, liberty is measured in terms of how successful you are. If you are not successful or popular, you will have less liberty to experiment,” says the actor, who will make his Marathi film debut with the upcoming film Baba (directed by Raj Gupta), which also marks Sanjay Dutt's foray into Marathi film production.
Deepak also swears by the sensibility and approach of Marathi filmmakers, who, according to him, don’t compromise on their vision of executing a film. He says, “I have worked with Marathi filmmakers in FTII diploma films and not just them, but even the actors are dedicated to their craft. People like Abhijeet Khandkekar or Spruha Joshi or Nandita Dhuri, who are established names in the industry, approach any project with tremendous sincerity and I was fortunate enough to experience that while working with them.”
