From ‘Dhappa’ to ‘Luckee’: Most promising Marathi films to watch in 2019

The Marathi film industry is gaining recognition and acceptance internationally, both for its content and performances of the actors. One of the fastest growing regional industry, it offers the audience something new and unique each time. This year too, Marathi stars are set to treat their fans with a slew of exciting films. Here's a list of the likely most promising Marathi release of 2019 that fans are expecting with bated breath.

‘Dhappa’

Nipun Avinash Dharmadhikari's ‘Dhappa’ is based on children’s play with a hard-hitting storyline which stars Shrihari Abhyankar, Deepali Borkar, Akash Kamble, Sharavi Kulkarni and Sharav Wadhawekar in the pivotal roles. ‘Dhappa’ has been penned by Girish Pandurang Kulkarni and directed by Nipun Avinash Dharmadhikari. It won the National Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration in the year 2018. The film is slated to release on February 1, 2019.

'Dokyala Shot'

After working as an assistant director, Shivakumar Parthasarathy will now be seen in the role of director. If the first look poster is anything to go by, the film stars Suvrat Joshi, Prajakta Mali, Rohit Haldikar, Ganesh Pandit and Omkar Govardhan. The film is touted to be a comedy film. 'Dokyala Shot' is presented by the makers of 'Balak Palak' and 'Yellow', directed by Shivkumar Parthasarathy and produced under the banner of A VIVA INEN Production and Uttung Hitendra Thakur.

'Bhai: Vyakti Ki Valli'

Mahesh Manjrekar's much-awaited biopic on Purushottam Laxman Deshpande aka PL Deshpande's life is titled as 'Bhai: Vyakti Ki Valli' and it has created a lot of buzz on the social media ever since the time it was launched in the presence of a politician, Raj Thackeray. Mahesh Manjrekar is known for some of his best works like ‘Mhais’, ‘Ek Hota Vidushak’, ‘Tujha Aahe Tujapashi’ and ‘Batatyachi Chaal’. And through this film too he has attempted to capture the most memorable moment of PL Deshpande' childhood, his emotions, his love for music, literature, script writing, and acting. The film features some of the most prominent personalities of the time, the most noteworthy being celebrated writer and politician Prahlad Keshav Atre aka Acharya Atre and a young Bal Thackeray, who later went on to form Shiv Sena. The film is slated to release on January 4, 2019.

'Ti and Ti'

Marathi star Pushkar Jog is all set to make his next appearance on the big screens along with popular actress Prarthana Behere and Sonalee Kulkarni. Under the direction of veteran actress, Mrinal Kulkarni's, the trio will feature in a rom-com titled 'Ti and Ti'. The film is touted to be based on a romantic adventure. While much of the film's plot is kept under wraps, this story reportedly revolves around Pushkar and his two leading ladies which makes us wonder if the movie will bring another love triangle on to the big screens. Produced under the banner of Anand Pandit Motion Pictures in association with Goosebumps Entertainment & Hyperbees Media Pvt.td, the film is co-produced Anand Pandit, Pushkar Jog and Mohan Naddar. The film is slated to release on March 1, 2019.

'Luckee'

Directed by Sanjay Jadhav, the makers of 'Luckee' revealed his star cast in a filmy style. Featuring the director singing the song 'Atta Navi Story and Navi Chora Chori', the video has him introducing his lead actors, Abhay Mahajan and Kollywood actress, Deepti Sati. The film is produced under the banner of B Live Production in association with Dreaming Twenty Four Seven Entertainment. The film is slated to release on February 7, 2019.
