Makers of the controversial Marathi movie 'Marathi Tigers' have decided to screen the movie in a tent from Friday at Shinoli village on Maharashtra border, about 15 kms away from Belagavi. The team has come to this conclusion after no theatres in Karnataka border showed interest in screening the movie, whose content allegedly provokes Kannada linguistics. After theatres in Belagavi denied screening the movie, the team has arranged the screening in a tent using projector at Shinoli of Changad taluka in Kolhapur district.

The tent has been installed in 2 acres area with 500 seating capacity. The movie will be releasing across Maharashtra on Friday in cinema theatres and simultaneously at Shinoli for Marathi linguistics on Karnataka border. Various Kannada organizations have opposed screening of the movie in Karnataka because of its controversial subject. According to Kannada organizations, the movie spreads enmity between Kannada and Marathi speaking people by provoking them emotionally.
According to them, the movie depicts half-baked truth like the alleged atrocities over Marathi linguistics by Karnataka government. As the film found no takers in Karnataka, the team is screening at the border of Maharashtra. Reliable sources said that four shows will run every day in the tent from 10 am onwards. With 500 seating capacity, the tent will cater enthusiasm of 2,000 people every day. More than 75% tickets will be sold in Belagavi itself while the rest 25% on the spot.

The movie, which is releasing at the onset of ZP and TP elections, turned out to be a boon for MES candidates in Belagavi taluka. The MES leaders are leaving no stone unturned to take advantage of the anti-Karnataka mood of Marathi linguistics. Border dispute is one of the emotional issues for Marathi linguistics and MES is reaping it. MES leaders and candidates are offering free transport and free movie ticket to the voters to watch the movie. Lead actor of the movie Amol Kolhe is leader of Shiv Sena from Pune and the border dispute issue always finds a top spot on the their agenda. In a press release, Ashok Chandaragi, district president of action committee of Kannada organizations alleged MES leaders for misusing 'Maratha Tigers' for political gain by provoking Marathi linguistics emotionally. Meanwhile, he appreciated the initiatives taken by district administration and local police department in maintaining cordial atmosphere among both linguistics.
