Despite its rich musical history, Mollywood has only had a few Sanskrit songs, in films such as Dhwani and Mazha. The latest track to join the list is Hara Hara composed for an upcoming
Nivin Pauly flick.
Lyricist
Hari Narayanan who has penned the song, which is the films title track, is over the moon about the response it has been garnering. Writing it though was no cakewalk, he says.
I have been writing lyrics for a while now, but when Abrid Shine asked me if I can pen one in Sanskrit, I had my doubts, says Hari. I decided to take it as challenge.
For Hari, who had also written Olanjali Kuruvi in 1983 and Kaatu Mooliyo in Om Shanti Oshana, penning Sanskrit words for the first time to the tunes sent by the films composer Jerry Amaldev made it even more strenuous.
As he had only two Sanskrit songs in Malayalam - Janaki Jane from Dhwani and Geyam Hari Naamadheyam from Mazha both written by Yusufali Kechery as reference, Hari says he had to unearth his potential.
Apart from those songs, my exposure to akshara slokams and vedic chants during childhood actually helped me a lot during the writing process, he says. It was a tough task but the results were worth it. The director and I are both pleased.
