Malayalam actors who worked in Bollywood films

India is perhaps the only country which has films made in more than a dozen languages. Often actors from one film industry have worked in the other. Let’s look at some M-town actors who gave a try in Bollywood films...

Mammootty
Malayalam superstar Mammotty has established himself in all the four South Indian languages. He made his Hindi film debut with the 1993 release Dhartiputra directed by Iqbal Durrani. He even played the title role in the film Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar which was made in English language and later dubbed in Hindi. His portrayal of Ambedkar got him the Best Actor a National Award.

Mohanlal
Just like Mammootty, Padmashri Mohanlal also has experimented in other South Indian languages and even in Bollywood. Mohanlal acted in Ram Gopal Verma's hit movie Company released in the year 2002. The National Award winning actor even acted in the 2007 release Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag, reprising the role of Sanjeev Kumar in the remake of Sholay. He had an extended cameo in Priyadarshan directed movie Tezz that released in the year 2012.

Prithviraj
This tall, dark and handsome hunk of Malayalam film industry, after achieving superstar status in Malayalam cinema, ventured into Bollywood with the 2012 release Aiyyaa directed by Sachin Kundalkar alongside Rani Mukerji. He even starred as a supporting actor in YRF produced Aurangzeb directed by Atul Sabharwal that released in the year 2013.

Revathy
This multi-talented South Indian beauty has won lots of accolades in every language she has acted in. National Award winner Revathy has acted and even directed Bollywood films. She made her Bollywood debut with the Salman Khan starrer Love that released in the year 1991. She later on acted in Ram Gopal Verma’s horror flick Raat that released in the year 1992. Her other Bollywood films are Ab Tak Chhappan, Phir Milenge, Nishabd, 2 States and the latest being Margarita With A Straw. She also directed an AIDS based movie Phir Milenge and the National Award winning film Mitr, My Friend.

Shobhana
Manichitratazhu star Shobhana has acted in a couple of Bollywood films. She acted in the Revathy directed National Award winning film Mitr, My Friend that released in the year 2002. She even acted in the Priyadarshan directed film Mere Baap Pehle Aap that released in the year 2008.

Lakshmi
Julie actress Lakshmi got her recognition from 1974 blockbuster Chattakkari and she even acted in its Hindi remake Julie for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Female). She last acted in Priyadarshan’s 2004 film Hulchul.
