1983

A classic Mollywood movie which will be always remembered as one of the best movies made in Malayalam cinema. This sports drama film was a big hit when it was released. The story revolves around (Nivin Pauly) and his memories from 1983 when India won its first World Cup under Kapil Dev. The film also pays tribute to cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar. The film received three Kerala State Film Awards including Best Debut Director for Abride Shine, Best Actor for Nivin Pauly and Second Best Actor for Anoop Menon. The songs of the films were an instant hit among the audience.

Sevens

A Malayalam sports action film written by Ikbal Kuttipuram and directed by Joshiy. The film featured a stellar star cast which includes Kunchacko Boban, Nivin Pauly, Asif Ali, Rejith Menon, Aju Varghese, and Vineeth Kumar. The film centres on seven young men who play sevens football, popular in Malabar. A youth film with a typical sports story the movie met with favourable reviews from audience and critics. The soundtrack of the film was composed by Bijbal.

Speed Track

The movie is set against the backdrop of a sports college starring Dileep, Gajala, Riyaz Khan and Madhu Warrier in the lead roles. The film describes the story of Arjun (Dileep) who is a young athlete and his journey in BCM college which is famous for sports and athletics. The movie was received well by the audience and was declared a sports office hit. ‘Speed Track’ is considered as the first sports movie in Malayalam.

Tournament

'Tournament' is a Malayalam road and sports movie written, directed, and produced by Lal, starring Manu, Rupa Manjari, Fahadh Faasil and Praveen Prem in the lead roles. The movie tells the story of three friends who are all set to leave for a cricket selection tournament scheduled at Bangalore. Likewise, their journey from thereafter. The director used a new format called play-replay, which is really the first in Malayalam film: One scene is replayed from different viewpoints after several scenes. Lal used this technique in the full length of the film.
