VKP's daughter turns director
Adman turned filmmaker VK Prakash is popular in Mollywood through his hit films like Beautiful and Trivandrum Lodge. His daughter Kavya is now following on his footsteps by adapting Unni R's short story Vaanghu. It narrates the story of a girl who desires to perform Vaanghu or azan, the Islammic call to prayer in the mosque.
Kavya tells us that she has always been aspiring to be a director since childhood. "I have been working in production for the past two years and was part of Mridul S Nair's B Tech movie. It was when I was toying with the idea of direction that Unni sir came home for a discussion with Achan. As he narrated the story, I was instantly attracted to it and wanted it to be the vehicle for my debut directorial.”
The screenplay will be by Shabna Mohammed, a friend of Kavya. "It was VKP who asked me if I could make a script out of the short story. I had read the story when it was published in a monthly and was able to relate to it. I have always wondered why only boys are allowed to perform azan," says Shabna.
The movie which is currently in pre-production stage is expected to go on floors in the beginning of 2019.
