At a time when Mollywood is high on anthologies featuring five directors and five different stories, another unique venture titled 'Tourist Home', with 10 writers and a single director, will hit screens soon. The highlight of the flick is that the entire story, which narrates a days happenings in the lives of the tenants of a tourist home, is filmed using a single shot.
Apparently, the story of the film has some similarities with Anoop Menons
Trivandrum Lodge, which also showcases the lives of tenants in a lodge.
However, Shebi, who had earlier directed
Plus Two, says, I have been working close to two-and-half years to put together a team and to perfect the technical side of the film. So, when
Trivandrum Lodge was announced, I was a bit nervous; I felt that all my work would go down the drain because we took so long to begin.
About shooting the entire film in a single shot, he says, I was inspired by the movie
Russian Ark, which was filmed using a single sequence. The climax scene in Lal Joses
Classmates used a similar technique. Thats when the idea of doing an entire film stringing together different stories and capturing it in a single shot struck me.
The film has an ensemble cast featuring 30 stars including
Hemanth Menon,
Sreejith Ravi,
Saiju Kurup, Rejith Menon, Nedumudi Venu, Kalabhavan Mani, Lena and Meera Nandan. Choosing the right cast was important for the two-hour long film, says Shebi.
Tourist Home needs a character to act for close to four minutes at a stretch; so we needed performers more than actors, he says.
The director also informs us that most of cast, especially the senior artists, were thrilled at the concept of the movie and were even willing to take a pay cut.
