Sreekumaran Thampi lauds Parvathy Thiruvoth’s decision to resign from AMMA
Lyricist-director Sreekumaran Thampi said that he appreciates actress Parvathy Thiruvoth’s decision to resign from Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA), which she had announced on Monday evening.
The actress resigned expressing displeasure in AMMA general secretary Edavela Babu’s comment in a recent TV interview, in which he said ‘We can’t bring back the dead’ as answer to a question on whether the actress who faced the assault, who had quit AMMA, will be part of the organisation’s next film venture.

Sreekumaran Thampi says, “I appreciate Parvathy’s decision. The female artistes in our film field should understand what it means to be a true woman, from the bold decision she took, despite knowing that it might have consequences. She could have taken it as something funny done by an ‘extra artiste’ who reached a major position without any eligibility for the same. Instead, she upheld the pride of women through her decision. She is an artiste without comparison, and I can say it with her performance in films like ‘Charlie,’ ‘Ennu Ninte Moideen,’ ‘Take Off,’ ‘Uyare,’ ‘Qarib Qarib Single’ and more. I am a director who has made films with major actresses like Sheela, Sarada, K R Vijaya, Lakshmi, Sreevidya, Jayabharathi, Seema, Nandita Bose, Poornima Jayaram, Urvasi, Menaka and Rohini. I am also the first director who made our first film without a hero, titled ‘Mohiniyattam,’ which was about women’s emancipation. I applaud this decision of Parvthy Thiruvoth.”
In her post, Parvathy says, “I would like to resign from AMMA with immediate effect. Moreover, I strongly demand the resignation of Mr Edavela Babu.”
