Actor Nivin Pauly has filed a police complaint against producer P.S. Shamnas, accusing him of forging documents related to the upcoming film 'Action Hero Biju 2'.
As reported by The Hindu, the complaint was lodged at the Palarivattom Police Station in Kochi. According to the First Information Report (FIR), Nivin Pauly claims that Shamnas submitted documents bearing a forged version of his signature to the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce in an attempt to fraudulently acquire the rights to the film.
The original 2023 agreement, signed by Nivin Pauly, director Abrid Shine, and Shamnas, had stated that the rights were held by Pauly's production company.
Kerala Film Chamber likely to act against producer
The Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce is reportedly set to take disciplinary action against Shamnas. This includes a likely ban on his production company, Indian Movie Makers.
Police have filed non-bailable charges against him for using falsified documents. The dispute has stirred concern in the Malayalam film industry, especially as the forged documents were allegedly used not only to claim rights but also to support a previous financial complaint Shamnas had filed against Nivin Pauly and Abrid Shine. That complaint had accused the duo of causing a loss of Rs 1.90 crore to the producer.
Financial dispute
Earlier, Shamnas had claimed he invested Rs 1.90 crore into the production of 'Action Hero Biju 2' based on an understanding that he would co-produce the sequel. He also accused Nivin Pauly of misleading a UAE-based firm, Home Screen Motion Pictures LLC, into buying overseas rights based on outdated agreements—an act he says resulted in him incurring financial damages.
The same trio had collaborated previously on the 2022 film 'Mahaveeryar' which unfortunately didn't ger much box office collections as expected. 'Mahaveeryar' was directed by Abrid Shine and was a time travel movie.
