Mohanlal and wife Suchitra's love story as the couple celebrates 33 years of togetherness

Mohanlal and wife Suchitra are a match made in heaven. And by heaven, we literally mean a divine intervention. Or how else could one describe their love and companionship of their marriage? From getting a proposal from each other’s families to later calling it off because the horoscopes didn’t match, getting the same proposal again and this time with 10 on 10 on the horoscope, to living an enviable life for the past 33 years, and forever to go, Mohanlal and Suchithra’s marriage is nothing short of a fairy tale.

Back in the late 1980s, Mohanlal was the new prince charming of Mollywood. The actor was winning the hearts of the movie buff with his marvelous performance and the star became one of the most desirable bachelor’s in the industry. It was during then, Mohanlal received a proposal from Suchitra’s family. Suchitra is no stranger to showbiz, as she is the daughter of veteran producer K Balaji. But the proposal didn’t proceed to marriage, as the families found their horoscopes incompatible.

Mohanlal and Suchitra's families decided to back off from the proposal, as the horoscopes of the duo didn’t match. Suchitra went back to her life in Chennai and Mohanlal got back to his life back as an actor. The proposal was dropped, and in course of time, Mohanlal almost forgot about the proposal and Suchitra. Life was moving at a warp speed for the two. Years went by. Suchitra had some relatives in Kozhikode. Even before the proposal, whenever Mohanlal arrived at Kozhikode, he used to stay with KC Babu, the owner of Baby Marine Ventures. The actor had a great rapport with him. And this time when Mohanlal came to Kozhikode, he received Suchitra’s proposal again. Mohanlal came to know that the astrologist made a mistake while looking at their horoscopes and hence it came out as incompatible.

Mohanlal dug deep and realized that Suchitra was waiting for him for the past two years. He was almost speechless while knowing it. Mohanlal had played the lover many times on screen, but this was a surreal experience for him. Suchitra swept him off his feet with love. The superstar perhaps read the omen and realized that this was a match made in heaven!

33 years ago today, in April 1988, Mohanlal tied the knot with the gorgeous and compassionate Suchitra at Mookambika Temple, Thiruvananthapuram. And Suchitra became Mohanlal’s Suchi! The wedding became a star-studded affair as the who’s who of the industry attended it. Prem Nazir, KP Ummer, Thikkurishi, Sukumaran, Mammootty, Jagathy Sreekumara, Balachandra Menon, Sreenivasan, Sathyan Anthikad, Priyadarshan, Venu Nagavally, all the big names of Mollywood graced at the event to bless the newly wedded couple.

Mohanlal is one of the biggest names in Indian cinema, and that doesn’t come easy. With dozens of movies every year, he had to travel from one set to another, work day and night, had packed schedules, and fans wherever he goes. Amidst all the crazy things, Mohanlal always stayed calm and composed, and the credit undeniably goes to his wife Suchitra. A part of his success and stardom definitely goes to his partner, who always stood by him. From traveling together to vacaying, Mohanlal and Suchitra always shell out a couple goals. The duo is celebrating 33 years of marriage today and we wish them a joyful life ahead.
