Mammootty starrer period drama ‘Mamangam’ has been the talk of the town ever since the project was announced. One of the most expensive Malayalam films till date, ‘Mamangam’ hit the screens on December 12, 2019, and is running successfully in theatres. "I have travelled the world, have friends back in Hollywood but have never seen this extent of backlash towards an art form and that too for absolutely no reason,” said Venu Kunnappilly who seems a bit upset as he tells us how the netizens have tried to fail the movie.
Venu Kunnappilly, who is the producer of upcoming Hollywood release 'Something Else', confirms that he hasn’t seen this kind of negativity in any other entertainment industry. The producer further elaborates that the whole hate-campaign started even before the movie was released. Venu Kunnappilly further added, “Initially we had planned to release ‘Mamangam’ on November 21 but due to some pending work, we had to push it a little further and decided to release it in December. But on November 21 evening, there was an outburst of negative comments claiming that the movie was too slow, boring, the protagonist just had a cameo and so on. We also saw a couple of positive comments. This is when we understood that this was targeted. Because, how can someone review a movie even before it has released?”
Venu Kunnapilly also emphasized that the success of 'Mamangam' would benefit the industry. He said, “I have no idea about who is behind all this negativity but these netizens have to understand one thing. We are investing a huge amount of money for this project in a comparatively small industry like Malayalam. They should support us because in the future this could encourage more producers to invest a large amount in a Mollywood movie. So stop spreading negativity. Invest this time in building your own future. Do something good for yourself and your society.”
Directed by M Padmakumar 'Mamangam' crossed 100 crores at the worldwide box-office within 10 days of its release and continues to entertain fans on the big screen.
