Malayalam lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi reveals he was hospitalized due to a stroke: 'I spent a week in the ICU'

Well-known poet, lyricist, music director, and screenwriter Sreekumaran Thampi recently revealed that he suffered a stroke caused by high blood pressure. He spent a week in the hospital but confirmed that he is now out of danger.

In a Facebook post, Sreekumaran shared that he experienced the stroke on September 9 and was quickly taken to a multispecialty hospital. Doctors have advised him to take complete rest for about a month. His post reads, “Unforeseen Guest - On September 9, I experienced a minor stroke due to high blood pressure. I was fortunate to be taken to the hospital in time, which helped avert a serious situation. I spent a week in the ICU at KIMS Health and now require complete rest for about a month. I have no words to express my gratitude to the expert doctors and nurses in the Neurology Department at KIMS Health in Thiruvananthapuram who saved my life. I also owe thanks to Dr. Sahadullah, the Chairman of KIMS Health, who came to see me as soon as he learned I was in the ICU.”

He further added, “For several days, I haven't been using my mobile or laptop. I am posting this with the help of a friend to assure my friends and fans that they should not misunderstand my lack of response to phone calls, messages, and Onam greetings. I was unable to comment on the passing of Kaviyoor Ponnamma, whom I considered like a sister. I kindly request everyone to understand my current situation and cooperate with me, as this rest is essential for my recovery.”


Sreekumaran Thampi is celebrated for his contributions to Malayalam cinema and music in the 1970s and 1980s. His songs like "Sandhye Kanneerithan," "Hridayasarasile Pranayapushpame," "Hridayathin Romancham," "Manjilayum Manjilayum," and more are classic hits.
