Kani Kusruti says she was not initially planning to celebrate at Cannes as the Palestinians' situation bothered her so much
Kani Kusruti recently carried a watermelon clutch on the Cannes red carpet to show her solidarity with Palestine. This act gained a wide range of attention from fans and social media users as they celebrated her for being bold with her opinion. Now, the actress revealed that she was not initially happy to attend Cannes as the ongoing Palestine issue was disturbing her.
In an interview with India Today, Kani Kusruti mentioned that she is a true Christian internally and she instantly feels guilty about how the world is unfair. Since last year, so many things have been going on, and she has been grappling with a sense of hopelessness. Kani wasn't sure if she would be able to join the team for Cannes.
While being happy she had this instant feeling that the world was not in the right state for a celebration. The condition of the Palestinians has been bothering her a lot. As many people were doing things to show solidarity, she wanted to do something at Cannes. She came up with the idea of wearing a white dress to paint a map of Gaza on it, but later found the watermelon clutch.
Kani also addressed some trollings happening around her act. She is used to it but sometimes wonders why actors get so much attention, even for a film. According to her, everyone has the right to question and all have their own individual beliefs.
Her film ‘All We Imagined As Light,’ directed by Payal Kapadia, won the Grand Prix award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
