Kalidas Jayaram’s thriller has an important social message

Kalidas Jayaram plays the titular character on a mission to find the person who committed a crime against his family in the investigative thriller, Rajni. The film, helmed by debutant director Vinil Scariah Varghese, who has worked as an associate director with Anwar Rasheed, is bankrolled by ad production house Navarasa Films. The film also stars Namitha Pramod, Reba Monica John, Saiju Kurup and Ashwin Kkumar in important roles. The film is set in Chennai and is bilingual. The teaser and the trailer (launched by popular director Lokesh Kanagaraj in Chennai) have generated around two million views each.“There is a police probe, spearheaded by Ashwin’s character, on a crime that has taken place, but Kalidas’s character does his own investigation, because he feels that his family has already suffered and is being targeted again; this forms the basis of the story. There is an important social message that is intrinsically tied to the climax of the movie,” says a source.“Kalidas is returning to Malayalam cinema after a gap and this is a role he hasn’t done before,” the source adds. While Reba plays his romantic pair, Namitha will be seen in the role of his sister. Vincent Vadakkan is the scriptwriter of the film, which has RR Vishnu as its cinematographer and Deepa Joseph as its editor. Rajni is releasing in theatres today.
