16 November 1980 was a black day in the history of Malayalam cinema. The entertainment industry lost its biggest star - Krishnan Nair aka Jayan. The star passed away in an unfortunate accident during the filming of ‘Kolilakkam’, leaving millions of his fans devastated. On April 18, 1980, when these dialogues appeared on the silver screen, the audiences were whistling, clapping, and celebrating. These dialogues from ‘Angadi’ had lit the silver screens for all the right reasons. Jayan played a coolie in the film and these dialogues awed the Malayali movie buffs. The USP of Jayan’s movies was that there would be some exceptional action sequences. The 1978 film ‘Lisa’ too had some stunt sequences involving Jayan. And this dialogue is delivered by the superstar, during a scene where he is confronting a man, who is stalking a woman. And the dialogue means, ‘Are you that stupid Shaji’. And believe us, this is not just a popular one-liner used by movie buffs, this has also been used by many popular politicians including Shahi Tharoor, during their heated discussions.

The 1979 film ‘Sarapancharam’ holds a crucial place in Jayan’s career. The Hariharan directorial made Jayan into an anti-hero. The term ‘antihero’ became popular through the film, after Jayan played one. And this power-packed dialogue won hearts. The dialogue translates to, “Child, you don’t know, whom you are dealing with,” and is often used by movie buffs.
