The online release of the Malayalam thriller 'Dheeram' starring Indrajith Sukumaran, has been postponed unexpectedly. The film was earlier scheduled to make its digital debut on March 6.However, the movie did not arrive on streaming platforms as previously announced.
As reported by OTT Play, so far, neither the streaming platform nor the producers have revealed the exact reason for the postponement. There has also been no official announcement about a revised release date.
Despite the delay reports suggest that the film is expected to arrive on Amazon Prime Video soon.
A thriller with a strong investigation angle
'Dheeram' is directed by Jithin Suresh T and features an ensemble cast. Along with Indrajith Sukumaran in the lead role the film also stars Aju Varghese, Divya Pillai, Vijayaraghavan, and Nishanth Sagar in important roles.
Theatrical release and competition
'Dheeram' had its theatrical release on December 5. The film arrived in cinemas alongside other Malayalam thrillers released around the same period.
One of the films that premiered at the same time was 'Kalamkaval' starring Mammootty and this majorly affected the box office performance of Indrajith Sukumaran's film.
GCC ban during theatrical release
Earlier, the film had also faced a setback during its theatrical run. 'Dheeram' was banned in several GCC countries, which prevented its release in those regions.
The update was shared by Indrajith Sukumaran himself through social media. Addressing his fans in the UAE, the actor expressed both disappointment and gratitude for the support he received.
Indrajith wrote on Instagram, “Was so looking forward to being in UAE on release day and watching the movie with you all, but deeply regret to inform you that DHEERAM will not be released in UAE due to censor ban. Thanks to everyone who has watched the movie and for sending in those lovely reviews. Grateful.. #Dheeram #releaseban.”
ETimes verdict
Our official review noted, "The premise is interesting on paper, but the execution struggles to create emotional engagement. The film does not build a strong connection between its characters and the audience, which makes the extensive gore and violence feel unnecessary rather than impactful. Multiple backstories, though intended to deepen the narrative, end up creating lag and repetition. As a result, the emotional intensity the film aims for never fully materialises. Indrajith Sukumaran delivers his usual dependable performance. Renji Panicker, Reba Monica John, Aju Varghese, Nishanth Sagar, and Divya Pillai handle their roles well, but the writing gives them limited space to leave a lasting impression."
