Mollywood director Unnikrishnan has withdrawn his resignation as general secretary of the Film Employees Federation of Kerala. The decision came after an emergency general council meeting in Kochi on Friday. Members unanimously requested him to continue in the role for leadership continuity.
Emergency council meeting
As reported by TOI City, the apex body representing 21 film-related trade unions held detailed discussions. Veteran director and FEFKA president Sibi Malayil headed the meeting. The council declined to accept Unnikrishnan’s resignation and urged both leaders to stay in their positions.
B Unnikrishnan's reasons for initial resignation
Unnikrishnan had cited personal reasons for stepping down. He wanted more time for writing, travelling, and teaching. After nearly 18 years in the top executive role, he felt it was time for a new generation to take over.
The council agreed to Unnikrishnan’s request for changes in responsibilities. "The members agreed to relieve me of certain specific responsibilities. The redistribution of workload has made my continuation practically feasible, allowing me to focus on core strategic roles while delegating administrative tasks. I will act in accordance with the decision of the general council," he told reporters.

The meeting also addressed rising production expenses in Malayalam cinema. Unnikrishnan criticised certain actors for interfering in the editing process and attempting to ‘ghost-direct’ films. He referred to the recent controversy linked to the film 'Sumati Valavu'.
"Actors must do their job and permit the director and his technicians to perform their tasks," Unnikrishnan stated. He highlighted the lack of discipline among some stars as a major issue. "With no significant financial support from banks or the govt, producers are increasingly forced to rely on private moneylenders," Unnikrishnan said.
Unnikrishnan emphasised the need to tackle financial risks and budget overruns. The federation plans to focus on these issues under the continued leadership.
Coming to the work front, B Unnikrishnan's recent directorial was the Nivin Pauly starrer 'Prathichaya,' which is currently streaming on OTT.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the
