‘Assi’ star Revathy reveals why she hasn’t watched ‘Bhoothakaalam’ yet: 'I would not be seeing it …'
Veteran actress Revathy is gearing up for the release of Anubhav Sinha’s courtroom drama 'Assi', where she plays a key role. While promoting the film, she opened up about her journey across industries and reflected on some of her Malayalam projects. In a candid conversation, the acclaimed performer surprised many by admitting that she has not watched her own widely praised horror film Bhoothakaalam.

Why she avoided watching ‘Bhoothakaalam’

Despite receiving strong critical acclaim for her role as Asha, Revathy confessed that she deliberately stayed away from the film. The reason is simple — she does not enjoy horror. She revealed that she had informed director Rahul Sadasivan in advance about her decision. In a recent interview with Red FM, she said, “I initially informed Rahul Sadasivan, the film's director, that I would not be seeing it. He asked me to watch it, but I was unable to.” The actress admitted she might reconsider someday but is not ready yet. “Perhaps one day I will be able to make up my mind to watch it,” she added.

Why she won’t direct in Malayalam

Revathy also spoke about her relationship with the Malayalam language. While she has acted in many films, she feels directing requires a deeper connection. She explained that filmmaking demands thinking and dreaming in that language.
Clarifying her hesitation, she said, “I can perform in Malayalam films as an actor, but directing is different because you have to make up a world and its characters.” She further added, “You have to think in that specific language to do so, which I am not so confident about.” Her honesty highlighted the difference between performing and creating from scratch.

Her role in ‘Assi’

In ‘Assi’, Revathy portrays a judge in a gripping legal drama. The story centres on a survivor seeking justice after a brutal crime. The film also stars Taapsee Pannu and Kani Kusruti in pivotal roles. Revathy’s character represents authority and moral balance within the courtroom narrative.

Upcoming projects and release plans

Apart from ‘Assi’, Revathy is also part of the much-anticipated film ‘Patriot’, featuring Mammootty and Mohanlal. Meanwhile, ‘Assi’ will first arrive in theatres before making its digital debut.
