‘Ashakal Aayiram’: Kalidas Jayaram says ‘hearts full, eyes moist’ for the warm reception

Kalidas Jayaram has penned a heartfelt note as his latest release ‘Ashakal Aayiram’ courts a warm reception in the theatres. ‘Ashakal Aayiram’, featuring real-life father-son duo Jayaram and Kalidas Jayaram in the lead roles, hit the theatres worldwide on Friday, February 6. As the film marks the duo's reunion on the big screen after a while, the anticipation around the release was sky-high. The film sparked nostalgia, with many lauding the father-son chemistry.

On Saturday, February 7, Kalidas Jayaram took to his Instagram account and expressed that his heart is full of love received from all quarters. “Hearts full. Eyes moist. Grateful beyond words for this love,” the young actor said.

‘Ashakal Aayiram’ is directed by G Prajith, who previously helmed Nivin Pauly’s film ‘Oru Vadakkan Selfie’ and Biju Menon-starrer ‘Sathyam Paranja Viswasikkuvo’. Starring Jayaram and Kalidas, the film also has Asha Sharath, Ishani Krishna, and Sharafudheen in key roles. The film revolves around Hariharan, a medical representative and his son Ajeesh Hariharan, a social media influencer and an aspiring actor. The film follows their strained relationship.

It tries to recreate the light-hearted family atmosphere seen in Jayaram’s popular films. Written by Jude Anthany Joseph and Aravind Rajendran, the screenplay follows a familiar pattern of middle-class problems and situational humour. The film works mainly because it allows Jayaram (Hariharan) to play to his strengths and evoke nostalgia. For example, the widely trolled BGM and Jayaram’s famous expression as Major Sreekumar are used wisely here, bringing the theatre down with laughter.
