Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is bringing the Hindi version of the acclaimed Malayalam thriller ‘Footage’ to a wider audience. The found-footage thriller, which received critical praise in Kerala last year, stars Manju Warrier in a key role and is directed by veteran editor-turned-filmmaker Saiju Sreedharan.
Saiju Sreedharan, known for his work on ‘Maheshinte Prathikaaram’ and ‘Kumbalangi Nights,’ makes his directorial debut with this unique thriller. The film follows a YouTube vlogging couple, played by Vishak Nair and Gayathri Ashok, who set out to investigate the mysterious employer of their house help during the COVID-19 lockdown. Their quest takes them to an isolated island, leading to unexpected twists and turns.
Earlier, Anurag Kashyap, who watched the preview of this Manju Warrier starrer, revealed to the media that he was blown away by the execution style of ‘Footage. During a media interaction, the ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ director said, “It's a very difficult film to make. It's not an easy film to make. Watching the film, it gets better with each viewing. It's a very difficult film to make. I just marvel at what they have done with the camera, the design, the screenplay, the sound design, and the background. It's not an easy film to make. It takes a lot of time and focus to make a film like this. So, nothing is…” He further hailed the art and sound department by saying, “Outstanding. It's brilliant. I'm still soaking in the film. And I love the risks everybody is taking. It's beautiful. This is a risk. She's taking the risks, the producers are taking the risks, the directors are taking, you know. That's how you... The cinema is actually growing here. I feel like I want…”
Although ‘Footage’ failed to mint any magnificent numbers at the box office, Anurag Kashyap’s involvement in presenting the Manju Warrier starrer has further fueled excitement around the film’s Hindi release.
