Delhi Assembly session : The first session of the Delhi Assembly began on Monday, with BJP MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely taking the oath as Protem Speaker at Raj Niwas. The oath was administered by lieutenant governor VK Saxena. Following this, the Speaker's election is scheduled for 2pm. As per the Delhi Assembly bulletin, LG VK Saxena will address the assembly on February 25, after which the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports will be presented. Several BJP leaders, including Vijender Gupta, Mohan Singh Bisht, Om Prakash Sharma, Ajay Kumar Mahawar, Abhay Verma, Anil Kumar Bajpai and Jitendra Mahajan, earlier filed a petition on the issue of placing CAG reports before the assembly. The pending CAG reports pertain to several departments and areas, including Delhi Transport Corporation, public health and mohalla clinics, state PSU, prevention and mitigation of vehicular air pollution in Delhi, appropriation accounts, children in need of care and protection, regulation and supply of liquor in Delhi.

A three-day session of the Delhi assembly will commence on Feb 24 and end on Feb 27. There will be no session on Feb 26 due to Maha Shivratri. A BJP functionary said that the first day of the session would begin with oath-taking by all MLAs and the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker. The next day, Feb 25, there will be an address by LG VK Saxena, after which the pending CAG reports will be tabled, followed by a discussion. The schedule was discussed at the cabinet meeting on Thursday evening. "Gandhi Nagar MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely will serve as the pro tem Speaker to oversee the election of the Speaker," the functionary added. Read more
Delhi Assembly Session: The first session of the eighth legislative assembly of Delhi is set to begin today. Chief minister Rekha Gupta will move a motion to nominate Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Vijender Gupta as the Speaker of the House.
The election for the Speaker will take place at 2.00pm, while the oath-taking ceremony for newly elected MLAs is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has appointed BJP leader Arvinder Singh Lovely as the protem speaker.
According to the Delhi assembly bulletin, Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena will address the assembly on February 25, after which the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports will be tabled.
Later that day, the assembly will open discussions on the motion of thanks for the LG’s address. On February 26, the debate on the motion of thanks will begin at 11.00am, followed by the election of the deputy speaker.
