The Great Indian Kitchen

Directed by Jeo Baby, ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ speaks about the kitchen and its inhabitants! Women, more specifically homemakers often get to hear questions like “Is household work that difficult? All you have to do is cook food and do some household chores,” in their day-to-day lives. But is household chores that easy? Filmmaker Jeo Baby has answered the question, in the most powerful way by presenting it through his film ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’. The film has Suraj Venjaramoodu and Nimisha Sajayan in lead roles.

Drishyam 2

Malayalam film ‘Drishyam’ hardly needs an introduction. The family thriller has already grabbed the attention of the world and the makers gave a sequel to the franchise, this year. Filmmaker Jeethu Joseph reassembled the team once again and gave away an edge-of-the-seat experience to the movie buffs. ‘Drishyam 2’ is as intriguing as its prequel and is perhaps one of the best-crafted movies Malayalam cinema has produced in the last couple of years.

Aanum Pennum

If you are someone who is overwhelmed by realistic movies, ‘Aanum Pennum’ could be a breath of fresh air. The film is an anthology and has three segments - Savithri, Rachiyamma, Rani, and is helmed by Jay K, Venu, and Aashiq Abu respectively. The film is about three women, who belong to three different periods and social circumstances. Savithri is a communist, Rachiyamma, a free-spirited bird, and Rani, a progressive (or rather normal) college-going girl.

Sara's

How informed are women about their reproductive rights? Is motherhood quintessential for a woman to feel complete? Is choosing work over motherhood a crime? Should pregnancy be planned or a surprise (accidental as the makers say)? Jude Anthany Joseph’s directorial ‘Sara’s’ tries to address these questions. The film has Anna Ben and Sunny Wayne in lead roles. Although the film is a half-baked attempt as it does not differentiate where the fine line between surprise parenthood and accidental pregnancy lies, the film is worth watching.

Joji

The three terrific talents, director Dileesh Pothen, scriptwriter Syam Pushkaran, and actor Fahadh Faasil are the soul of 'Joji'. ‘Joji’ is a take on William Shakespeare's play Macbeth. Although the film is inspired by the play the makers have focused on greed, rather than the characters. Fahadh Faasil plays the titular role, Joji, who is an engineering dropout. The film also has some of the finest performances and is an intriguing watch.

The movie might be a good watch for people who love action thriller genres, however, those who can’t stand violence should steer clear of the film.
