Akashvani

Story: Akashvani is a simple movie that suffers from a hackneyed plot; so much so that the attempt becomes mundane by the end of the film.

REVIEW: The theme of ego clashes and misunderstandings that result from urban couples prioritizing their professional lives has been beaten to pulp. So Akashvani needed a novel element to engage the audience and, honestly, it doesn’t deliver in terms of presentation or story.

Khais Millen’s debut directorial is about Akash (Vijay Babu), the managing director of a firm, and Vani (Kavya Madhavan), a media professional, whose demanding jobs leave much to be desired in their wedded life. The constant ego clashes, misunderstandings and lack of communication build up to a breaking point. This opens the door for a few intruders who threaten to derail their family life, which is already falling apart. Whether the couple manages to salvage their relationship amid the crisis takes the story forward.

Akashvani is a simple movie that suffers from a hackneyed plot; so much so that the attempt becomes mundane by the end of the film. The writing is so lackluster that the actors have nothing to do and Vijay Babu and Kavya Madhavan come off as silly during certain scenes. For instance, when Vani tries to entice her husband with her dance pose or cooking up a batch of unniyappams while the latter is tied up in a bathroom. Where the film ultimately slips is that its lead characters don’t strike any chemistry at all.

Actors Saiju Kurup and Sreejith Ravi put on the best show in the film that is peppered by rather boring cameos from a few popular faces. The music too doesn’t add much. Akashvani’s tagline ‘a story seen by a mosquito’ is nothing more than an afterthought that gets lost in several quirks that the director tries to bring in to sustain the dreary narrative. The scenes in the second half, that show the side of the goons, could have easily been trimmed as it doesn’t leave any impact on the story.While Akashvani does show that effective communication can breathe fresh life into most failing marriages, it has nothing new to offer and is a flick that you wouldn’t mind giving a miss.
