It is known that Rajinikanth, originally Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, hails from Bengaluru and loves his hometown. While he is now the most celebrated South star and is based in Chennai, he has also acted in some memorable Kannada films. We pick five such films that you must watch too...

Priya
This film stars Rajinikanth, Sridevi, Ambareesh and Singapore Asha. Rajini plays a suave, sharp lawyer who helps Sridevi, an actress in the film, deal with her personal problems. This film was shot lavishly. Rajini is seen with his trademark swagger and sharp dialogues.

Katha Sangama
This film is coincidentally Rajinikanth's second film in his career. It was also his first Kannada film. This film was directed by K Balachandar. Rajini plays a grey character who rapes the a woman when her husband isn't at home.

Kiladi Kittu
This film saw Rajinikanth team up alongside late Dr Vishnuvardhan. The duo was a popular choice for makers in Kannada at a point. Rajinikanth played a cop in this film. His character was on the trail of Kittu - Vishnuvardhan.

Ondu Premada Kathe
This was probably Rajinikanth's first definitive lead role in Kannada cinema. It saw him paired alongside Sharada. The film also starred Ashok. Coincidentally, this was the first south Indian film in black and white cinemascope.

Sahodarara Savaal
This was Rajinikanth's first film alongside Dr Vishnuvardhan. It was a blockbuster directed by KSR Das. The film also saw subsequent remakes in Telugu and Hindi. Rajini acted in the Telugu.
