This time, the abuse crossed all limits: Vijayalakshmi
After being subjected to a barrage of abusive and sexually explicit comments online, Vijaylakshmi Darshan, wife of actor Darshan who is currently in jail, has chosen to speak out. She urges wom en not to endure digital harassment in silence. She also recently met the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, seeking action against those responsible.
‘ONLINE MESSAGES BECAME VERY ABUSIVE AND BELOW THE BELT’
“This isn’t the first time I’ve faced online trolling,” Vijayalakshmi says, adding, “Four years ago, my photographs were morphed and circulated online. I pursued the matter legally, and action was taken then. But this time, the abuse crossed all limits and couldn’t be ignored.”
‘CYBER LAWS MUST BECOME STRONGER, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO WOMEN’S SAFETY’
Some of the culprits were booked post her official complaint. Reflecting on the epi sode, Vijayalakshmi says the experience made her think of women who lack support systems. “If someone like me has to go through this, what about ordinary women? So many young girls face online abuse si lently, and that’s heartbreaking,” she says. Urging women to persist, she adds, “These comments reflect the mindset of the haters. File a complaint and, if needed, follow up repeatedly. Laws exist, but cyber laws must become stronger and more effec tive, especially when it comes to women’s safety.” Her message is unequivocal, as she as serts, “Don’t change yourself for anyone — least of all because of trolls. Silence isn’t strength. Speaking up is.”
