Kannada star Darshan Thoogudeepa’s latest film, ‘The Devil’, was released in theatres on December 11th. The film received a good response upon its opening weekend and is now performing decently at the box office. Early estimates suggest the action thriller drama made over a crore on Tuesday.
According to trade analyst Sacnilk, the film had a tremendous opening as it collected over Rs 10 crore. The next day, it saw a noticeable drop. However, the film managed to make consistent numbers. On the second day, the movie made Rs 3.4 crore and Rs 3.8 crore on Saturday. Later on Sunday, the film made Rs 4 crore. As the weekdays begin, the numbers saw a further decline as it made Rs 1.45 crore on Monday and crore on Tuesday. This brings the total to Rs 23.65 crore.
Theatrical occupancy
Speaking of the film’s occupancy, the movie yesterday had 17.36% Kannada occpancy. The morning shows had the least occupancy and it increased gradually as the day progressed. The morning shows were at 10.26% and later increased to 17.49% in the afternoon. The evening shows saw a slight increase at 18.92% and 22.78% at night.
About ‘The Devil’
‘The Devil’ is a political action thriller in which Darshan is seen playing a dual role. One is of an innocent dreamer, Krishna, a mess owner aspiring to stardom, and the unhinged antagonist, Darshan, son of a Chief Minister, forcing Krishna into impersonation amid high-stakes drama.
Directed and written by Prakash Veer, the film also features Rachana Rai, Mahesh Manjrekar, Achyuth Kumar, Sharmiela Mandre, Roger Narayan, Shobaraj, and Srinivas Prabhu.
‘Kantara Chapter 1’ fame Ajaneesh Loknath composes the score.
Early reviews
The movie received mixed reviews upon its release. Some Darshan Thoogudeepa's ardent supporters hailed his intense dual-role performance amid personal controversies, while others called the screenplay underdeveloped.
