Stephen brings Western symphony to Kannada cinema
If you thought symphonies for the background score of a film were restricted to just Hollywood, it is time to change your opinion, thanks to the team of the Kannada film Last Bus. The films background score, put together by Stephen Prayog, promises to be a treat as far as the movie-watching experience is concerned.
I have composed background scores for various Kannada films such as Mungaaru Male, Milana and the like.

However, I have to say that in the 25 years of my career, this is the first film that has given me the time and bandwidth to put to use the knowledge I gained at the Berklee School of Music in Boston. Indian films rarely use symphonies, as recording for them is time-consuming. It takes a good 4-6 months to prepare the score, and since we do not have such a set-up in India, the process is more challenging, says Stephen, who runs his own music school too.
While Stephen feels that he was lucky to work with director SD Aravind who was kind enough to give me that kind of time to compose, he adds, When I watched Last Bus, I found that every scene of the film was so well-planned and shot. I wanted to do justice to a film of this stature and I am glad I got such an opportunity.
