Roopika chooses art films
Sandalwood actress Roopika, who did not have a run with commercial films, has acted in two art movies — Engalaya Marga, directed by Vishal Hegde and Gandhijiya Kanasu, helmed by Manu.
The actress says she is essaying the role of a Marathi dancer in Engalaya Marga. “As I come from theatre background, doing art films was always there at the back of my mind. When the opportunity came I accepted it gladly.

Working for art films is a completely different experience. Every character in an art film has a special significance, which sometimes cannot be seen in commercial flicks. Mine is a powerful character in Engalaya Marga, I fight against the Devadasi system. In Gandhijiya Kanasu, I play the role of a government official who works for the welfare of the people," she says, adding, "As an actress, I want to prove my prowess in different types of roles. I hope at least one of these films get an award.”
Roopika, who is currently dabbling in studies as well as films, says, doing art films doesn’t mean that she will not accept commercial films, “I will do commercial films though it is a different ball game altogether. I may sign a commercial movie soon,” she signs off.
