A host of young actresses refuse to be tied down by language as they sign up for interesting roles across entertainment industries

Namma Kannada actresses are going places. Offers to play interesting characters in other industries have seen them bringing down regional barriers. Here are a few from the new brigade who have grabbed the opportunities to carve a niche for themselves beyond the state’s borders:
Ashika Ranganath: Ashika is one among the latest Kannada actresses to take up offers from other language film industries.

She plans to debut in Tamil films with a family entertainer that sees her play the role of a kabbadi player. “The film team saw my workout videos on my social media page and approached me for this character,” she says.

Harshika Poonacha: The actress, who made inroads into the Bhojpuri film industry last year, has signed up for her third one there called Sanam Mere Hum Raaz. Harshika says, “The Kannada film industry made me a brand. The Bhojpuri film industry made me a star.”

Meghashree: Meghashree is yet another actress who has a flurry of offers from the Bhojpuri industry. “I find Bhojpuri actors to be more expressive, and emotionally heavy film are their expertise,” she says.

Sanjana Anand: Sanjana recently forayed into the Telugu film industry with a romantic film, Nenu Meeku Baaga Kavalsinavaadini. She says, “I have been keen on exploring any opportunity that I feel may help me hone my acting skills.”

Sreeleela: After her Telugu debut with Pelli SandaD, Sreeleela has a Telugu-Kannada bilingual, opposite Nithiin, in the offing. On working in the Telugu film industry, she says, “Usually, it takes a while for actors to be accepted by another regional language film industry. However, it’s great to see that people have accepted me rather quickly.”

Sonal Monteiro: Sonal has recently signed up for her debut Hindi film, Sarojini, which is based on the life of Sarojini Naidu. She says, “I play a slightly younger version of Sarojini - from age 19 to 35. I am looking forward to the new experiences this film has to offer.”

Kushee Ravi: All set to debut in Telugu with the film Rudra, Kushee tells us that the character she plays is sure to surprise audiences who have seen her in the Kannada film Dia, which won her critical acclaim. “I am excited to showcase what is in store – it’s an exciting character and I am playing her in a new language,” she says.

Rukmini Vasanth: Even though she is yet to make her big screen debut, Rukmini is on a role, with a Telugu film in her kitty too. She is said to have already completed part of the shoot for the same in London last December. She shares, “It’s a new beginning, so I’m looking forward to the exciting journey."
