Govt declares Kannada film Landlord tax-free
Actor and filmmaker Vijay Kumar’s Landlord has been declared tax free by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. “The film sensitively portrays social concerns, human values and contemporary realities, while addressing issues that deserve serious attention from society. We believe that a film like Landlord that throws light on social causes will seek to inspire more filmmakers to make such films,” shared the CM. Meanwhile, Vijay took to his social media handle thank the Chief Minister for this move.
What makes a movie tax-free in Karnataka?
A Kannada movie is declared tax-free when the government grants an entertainment tax exemption or reimbursement (post-GST). This is a policy decision, not an automatic entitlement.
Factors taken into consideration:- Films that are culturally or socially relevant
- Are originally made in Kannada, not dubbed versions
- Hold a clean U or U/A certificate
- Are formally reviewed and approved by the Karnataka government
However, final approval depends on state policy priorities.
