Despite being superstars on TV in their own rights, a few select personalities have forayed into cinema

Television has been a booming arena for quite some time in India and its reach, as of today, extends way beyond the homes of its patrons. In this regard, TV hosts and personalities too enjoy their own share of fanfare and are bonafide superstars in the eyes of an audience that is perhaps more dedicated and enthusiastic than of cinema. However, a few such TV personalities have been lured to the charms of the big screen and taken up acting in films to expand their own horizons. While some of them have remained film actors forever, the rest have gone back to their original place of comfort to further strengthen their holds.

Golden Star Ganesh

Once the face of TV, Ganesh is a prime and the most glorious example of the case study in hand. Having begun as a member of the supporting cast on TV serials like 'Papa Pandu' and others, Ganesh quickly found his own show and fanfare as he progressed to becoming Comedy Time Ganesh in no time. What followed is a brief stint in cinema as a side player but it was apparent the whole time that Ganesh was meant for bigger things. Thus came 'Chellata' which gave him his first break and he would follow that up with 'Mungaru Male' - the rest, as they say, is pretty much history as there was no looking back after that. Interestingly, Ganesh would return to hosting on TV in 2014 for the 'Super Minute' game show but as a superstar this time around.

Anushree

Perhaps the current face of Kannada reality television, Anushree has managed to etch her own niche over the years to evolve as a brand eventually. Her on-stage persona as a host or the voice of any show is prevalent across reality TV and Kannada cinema (for the live shows such as music launches and so on) - so much so that she carries the tag "Anchor" all-around to be popularly referred to as "Anchor Anushree". Anushree forayed into film acting with Baraguru Ramachandrappa's 'Bhumitayi' in 2011 and has a number of interesting roles to her name since then.

Akul Balaji

Akul Balaji is perhaps the only TV anchor in the country who has managed to successfully penetrate not one but two different regions - Kannada and Telugu. Hailing from Andhra Pradesh, Akul began his career in the show business with an array of prominent roles in TV serials before he would find his groove as a show host. Thus came his truest calling and Akul became synonymous with TV reality show/ award ceremony hosting as he went to carve out a pretty enviable career for himself. He has also acted in a bunch of films like 'Kallarali Hoovagi' and 'Paramesha Panwala'.

Sheethal Shetty

Sheethal Shetty first shot to fame as a primetime news anchor and TV host before trying out her luck with cinema. She would play the role of a journo in Rakshit Shetty's 'Ulidavaru Kanadanthe' and gain tremendous popularity over time as the film's main narrator. Post the success, Sheethal stayed on as a film actor and featured in a number of interesting films including 'Kendasampige' and '96' - her directorial debut, 'Window Seat', is set to release later this year.

Chikkanna

Chikkanna's inspiring journey to stardom begins at the time when he worked as a mason near his hometown and would dream of becoming a popular actor one day. It was through his TV exploits that he would eventually turn the dream into reality, and thanks to superstar Yash for spotting the talent in him that he progressed from being a TV actor to a film comedian within no time. Chikkanna began his career with a couple of very popular TV prank shows and made his film debut in 2011 with 'Kirataka'.

Kirik Keerthi

Keerthi Kumar is well-known for his TV stint when he featured as a program producer and anchor on a premiere Kannada news channel. Kumar obtained the "Kirik" title for his revolting demanor on social media on topics related to anti-Kannada agitation and the likes. Kirik Keerthi has forayed into cinema and made special appearances in films 'Eradane Sala' and 'Devrantha Manushya'.
