Believe it or not: Shaolin gets students with hearts of 'steel'
Kung fu just got a futuristic upgrade—and the internet can’t stop watching. Visitors at China’s iconic Shaolin Temple were left wide-eyed after spotting humanoid robots practising Shaolin Kung Fu alongside monks at the centuries-old site in Henan province.
'Robotic' learners
Captured in viral videos, the humanoid robots can be seen mirroring the monks’ movements with surprising precision—striking classic kung fu stances, repeating drills and performing choreographed routines. According to CGTN, this was a technology demonstration rather than a spiritual experiment, with the robots following posture, balance and timing much like human trainees learning under a master.
Steel body, sacred moves
While many were amazed by the robots’ fluidity, others questioned the presence of machines in a space deeply tied to spirituality and tradition. One of them said, "Looks like something straight out of a movie," while another one remarked, "One day these guys will chase us out from earth." CGTN explained that the demonstration highlights advances in robotics, artificial intelligence and motion-learning technology, with monks involved as part of a cultural and technological exchange rather than an attempt to replace or modernise traditional training methods. The result? Tradition just met its most unexpected student.
