Day four of the Jairarangam theater festival witnessed two plays. While one play focused on unfulfilled love of a young man in his college days, the other highlighted social issues of the day. The play Prem Patanga revolved around a boy who fell in love with a girl at the university. His timidity came in the way of expressing his love for the girl. The director gave the play Bollywood treatment through the use of songs.
Some good performances by the artistes made it worth a watch. The jam-packed Rangayan auditorium of Jawahara Kala Kendra bore ample testimony to this.
Another play was Salaam India staged at Ravindra Manch. Directed by director and actor Lushin Dubey, the play brought alive the daily issues of a commoner’s life on stage. Four actors, including Lushin herself, portrayed 16 characters and pulled off the roles with considerable ease.
